Is my website, the worst site on the Internet?
By Jonathon Perino of Avid Tech DVD Transfer Centre
Given the current economic circumstances and the downturn in business activity generally, I became a little bit concerned about the loss of traffic to my website, and started to doubt whether the recent rebuild had something to do with it. I try very hard to provide a quality feel and look, I put some very relevant images and updated lot of the content providing very relevant and detailed information about our services in various categories that we provide and all looks very neat and tidy. So, as you can imagine when I discovered that my traffic had dropped to less than 30% of what it normally would pull in I started to panic and headed over to Google to check out the search volume for all of the terms that are associated with our website and discovered that it had also collapsed. So of course I started to doubt that all of the improvements that were made to my website recently, was probably a big mistake. I have been scratching my head through a few days, polled a few friends to ask their opinion on the improvements and the general feedback was positive. So I guess after all, it wasn't that bad, but the loss of traffic let the bad feeling in my mouth. Or should that be a bad taste? Fortunately, I have a sister site, which is on a reliable stable theme with similar but not the same content (very careful to avoid duplicate content). As this site is probably more directed properly as a sales page effort, rather than a detailed explanation of every aspect of our services like our main website. I looked at all the usual suspects, got rid of nearly all my Adsense adds as I thought these may be taking traffic away, but guess what? You guessed it, no Adsense revenue to speak of either. Is it the sign of the times or is my website such utter rubbish and so loathsome that nobody wants to visit? Or are people really hanging on to their cash at the moment despite the Australian government is generous giveaways to boost the economy. Normally at this stage of the year (December 2008). We would be flat out with orders hanging out the windows, stacked to the ceiling and blocking the stairways. Unfortunately 2008 looks like being a very bad Christmas. For me and my staff, and I guess the people are looking and they're not spending they don't realise that they are costing people their jobs, not spending money reduces the economy, and the more people that are out of work. The less money gets spent in that economy leading to further job losses including the jobs of those mean people who would not spend their money when they had it. Like many small business operators who have an online presence or are heavily dependent on the Internet marketing their products or services. We have done everything we can possibly do. We have created blogs, squiddo lenses, a myriad of other social marketing back links from high traffic social networks and general link building. Advertising on the radio promoting our website address doesn't seem to have helped very much either time guessing that my website is not so bad after all, and it really is a sign of the times that nobody can be bothered looking or spending, which is a real shame. Really have lost a lot of sleep worrying about my website unnecessarily with the same, because today's check of the Google's search volume for our keyword group has shown a dramatic decrease for October and November, and I gather that December will be even worse. The small-business and Internet marketers having a great looking website might not be enough in is very tight niches where search volume is pretty low to begin with. Well I guess, while it is quiet, I have no excuse not to write articles about why I'm concerned about having the worst website on Internet, you are most welcome to come and visit my website, and provide your import or feedback or better still write an article about my website, really could use all the help I can get |
